It was Mosspaw's first day as a Shadowclan apprentice and Snowface, his mentor, had taken him into the forest to train.

Gingerfur comes along with them, bringing Slickpaw along with her. "You two don't mind if we train together do you?" she meows. Snowface replies, "No, I don't mind unless Flowerpaw does."

"Hello Slickpaw." then Mosspaw turned toward Gingerfur and meows "Hello Gingerfur" and he bows his head respectfully to the warrior. "No, I don't mind if they train with us, so what are we doing first? Fighting, hunting or learning the borders?"

Gingerfur meowed, "Maybe we should learn hunting first. You'll do a lot more of that then you will fighting." Snowface nodded in agreement. "Let's begin. Use your scent to find some pray, like rabbits, squrriels, birds, and so on." he meowed.

Mosspaw opened his mouth to let the forest scent touch his scent glands. He could smell two things: a stale fox scent and a squirrel. He knew the fox scent was stale but what if it was still in the territory? He decided to ignore it, because if it was really important their mentors would say something. "I smell a squirrel." he whispered so the squirrel wouldn't hear him and run away.

Snowface nodded yes and whispered, "You are correct. Now, do you think you can catch it?"

Mosspaw nodded yes and started to stalk through the underbush, making sure to keep all his weight on his haunches so the squirrel wouldn't detect him. A heartbeat later he pounced, the squirrel let out a quick shriek but Mosspaw finished it off with a quick bite to the neck, he sent a silent prayer to Starclan for it's life. Mosspaw looked at his paws, "I was to slow, thanks to me the squirrel probably scared all of the prey away."

"Well that is okay." Snowface meowed. "It happens to even warriors, so don't worry." He looked up at the clouds. "It looks as if it might rain."

*darn it, my first day as an apprentice and it might rain!*Mosspaw cursed silently. He looked at Slickpaw and wondered if he was thinking the same thing.

Snowface thought to himself. If it's going to rain, then we should start heading back. So much for the first day of training. "So," he meowed. "What do you say about heading back. If we don't we'll be soaked in no time."

Mosspaw nodded his agreement although he was disappointed that, on his first day as an apprentice, it was going to rain. He picked up his squirrel to show that he was ready to go.

Snowface sighed, "I know, I'm disapointed too. I was pumped up for this day to come and now it is ruined by rain. Maybe we can talk in the den." he meowed.

Mosspaw nodded and they headed off.

Snowface lead the way until they got to the warrior's den. Once they got there rain started pouring and a few cats walked inside as well. "Maybe we can help dry the cats off. Or maybe we could see if the medicine cat needs any help, or we could just talk." Snowface didn't want his apprentice to be sad, so that's why he gave a bunch of options. Then he thought that he should of just been quiet.

"Lets talk about what we'll do tomorrow!" Mosspaw mewed brightening up.
